Solar thermal power plants

Welland & Tuxhorn is active in the field of renewable energy.

In May 2011 Welland &Tuxhorn was awarded a contract to supply bypass control valves for three blocks of the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating Facility in California.

Solar tower project

A large array of mirrors reflects sunlight to a receiver at the top of the tower, where the water is heated to steam with at around 160 bar / 540 °C. This steam drives a combined steam turbine and generator with a capacity of 392 megawatts. The W & T valves are installed at the usual points in the water-steam circuit and are designed for high-performance regulation. The saturated steam states and two-phase flows must be taken into account, together with the risk of erosion.

Regenerative energy

  • Biomass cogeneration and power plants
  • Waste incineration plants
